InLine Skating !
In my day roller skating was the craze. We would strap on our WIDE wheels and fly down the pavement, the wind blowing through our hair.
Well that generation of wheeled dare devils has given way to a new generation called roller blading or Inline Skating … but it may not be just for your kids.
Advantages: Low impact calorie burn and cardio-resipiratory benefits comparable to running and cycling: fluid motion and grace of ice skating or dancing: a great way to spend time with your kids
Calories Burned: 400 to 600 per hour depending on speed, based on a 150 pound person.
Muscles Worked: Legs, hips, butt, abdomen, chest, upper back, shoulders, and arms.
Safety Tips: Always wear a helmet and protective pads; enjoy parks and rinks dedicated to skating; avoid hazards such as gravel, debris, sand, grease, and water; when skating in traffic, obey all standard rules of the road.
Getting Started: Lessons boost enjoyment and safety for all ages. To find a certified instructor in your area, call the International Line Skating Associations Instructor Certification Program at 910-762-7004; or visit their Web site: www.iisa.org For a free “Gear UP!” guide to inline skating, call 800-56-SKATE.
